This module is suitable for students who have gained a pass mark in CLAS1901 Fast-Track Latin 1. The module involves a study and consolidation of more challenging aspects of Latin grammar, and is designed to provide the foundation for reading long tracts of Latin texts in the original confidently and competently in the next academic year. The module is worth 20 credits and runs in semester 2 only, with 5 classes per week.
The module involves a study and consolidation of more challenging aspects of Latin grammar, and is designed to provide the foundation for reading long tracts of Latin texts in the original confidently and competently in the next academic year. On completion of this module, students should be able to recognise and explain the use of more challenging Latin grammar and syntax, and to have developed greater fluency and confidence in the translation of select parts of Latin texts.
Students completing this module are expected to have acquired:
- a consolidated understanding of more challenging aspects of Latin grammar and syntax;
- an increased ability to translate texts accurately and sensitively.
On successful completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
- demonstrate a range of subject-specific skills, including an ability to recognise and apply more challenging aspects of Latin grammar and to analyse Latin texts critically in grammatical terms;
- demonstrate a range of transferable skills, including organisation of personal study and participation in oral discussion in class.
